I recently had the pleasure of doing a Grand Cayman Maternity Photography shoot with this Gorgeous couple. The location of choice was a beautiful protected bay on Sand Point Drive on the North Side of Grand Cayman. A favourite among couples and families and one of Joseph Linder Photography‘s first picks for these types of photo shoots.
We were fortunate enough to get a thin layer of cloud diffusing the evening sun. Setting right out the front of this west facing beach. Maternity photography is about putting your focus on the mum to be and directing her into positions to show off the ‘bump’. Whilst still flattering the subject and having the directional evening light fall in the right places.
A variety of creative techniques were used in this shoot. Having a distance between the main subject and having her partner in the foreground whilst shooting with a wide open aperture really draws the eye in and isolates the subject. This is a great way of telling a story and invoking and emotional response with the viewer. The distance between subjects and focal length is an important aspect. The subjects in an image should be perfectly focused or completely out of focus to avoid a confusing cluttered look.
This particular location has shallow protected pools of water perfect for getting reflections and soft, milky out of focus backgrounds. Once the sun goes down the cluster of palm tress make for great framing and offer shaded areas in harsh light. In addition they make great places for silhouettes. putting a frame around the edge of the images.
